When Mother Nature Invites Herself to the Wedding...

We all know couples spend months; some even spend years planning for what their vision will look like for the special day. Couples find themselves overthinking every aspect and attempting to plan for every scenario. However, one thing you cannot plan for or know exactly what will happen is Mother Nature. Yes, when it is all perfect and last minute, the skies decide to rain at ceremony time.

The first thing family and friends want to say to the couple is “rain is good luck on your wedding day”, however, it is the last thing you want to hear as the bride or groom. You feel defeated, like everything you planned and envisioned for ceremony is ripped out from under you. I am here to tell you it is okay to feel this way, it is okay to take a second and regroup. Of all the things you have planned and envisioned for this is not the only memorable way though. While busy planning for an outdoor ceremony, you have skipped the idea of what it would look like or the vision the inside of a beautiful venue can create for a ceremony. While this may not be ideal for what you had planned, it will not be something that defeats you.

When speaking to couples who have been married for years, I have asked them what they remember most from their day. It is mostly the memories created with their guests at reception or the moment of seeing their future wife or husband for the first time coming down the aisle, not where the aisle is located.

My most given advice to couples who find themselves in the bridal suite looking out the window and seeing the rain, is YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I cannot stress this enough throughout the entire planning process for my couples. Especially the day of, when that rain hits, you may feel alone facing a decision with whether you should move the ceremony space but trust me you are not alone! Believe it or not, your coordinator, photographer, videographer, and DJ are your ride or dies! They have been through this and will be in your corner. While they won’t make the decision for you, most will lay out the options and pros and cons. They all are already planning for the “what ifs” the “what can we do to make this better”. Having the right team in your corner matters at moments like this.

Tips to think of or ask while planning your vision:

· Ask your venue: What is the rain plan to move ceremony location? Time of notice they need?

· Pictures are your best friend! These are what you will have for the rest of your life. Bridal party can still take pictures at the ceremony space after the rain stops. Utilize the ceremony location as a special Golden Hour Location for pictures

· Décor: Know the weather when placing your décor outside the day of! Is it something that can be pulled in or place outside quick if necessary?

· Umbrellas: Do any of your vendors provide umbrellas to get you from the bridal party area to ceremony location?

Whether your ceremony is at the “special gazebo” or indoors with an outdoor view, it will still be perfect. At the end of the day the two of you will be married and that is all that matters!
